Static Buildup on RADF
Had
several problems with document feeder jams due to static buildup. Found a good solution -
try some fuser oil on the platen glass. This will cut down on friction therefore reduce
the static. Works great.
OLDER KONICAS
COPY QUALITY
On older Konica copiers, the developer unit mag roller tends to get smooth causing the
developer not to stay on the roller as it turns. A simple fix is to engrave the roller
with an electric engraver. Pass the engraver in lines across the roller untill the entire
surface is covered. This takes about three minutes and does not have to be pretty.
DOC FEEDERS
DF-301 RADF (Common to 25/32/4290's)
These doc feeders have a static buildup problem. After confirming good ground connections,
check the holders for the swing back and exit swing rollers. These are plastic and should
ohm out open or very high. They do however become conductive and at about 12 - 8k ohms
will cause static problems. The cure is to replace the holders. I finally solved this on a
4291 that after 10 originals of recycled paper would glue the paper to the glass and give
a shock at the screws under the handle. Since then I have resolved about 20 such problems.

If copy density is low, and CVR is adjusted MAX, replace resister R12 on main board with
lower value, and re-adjust CVR.

Shifting Dev Unit forward, and installing V4 Dev, with 3300 toner makes better density,
and less toner drop.

LIGHT COPIES DURING TEST RUN
Whilst working on Main board, beware that light passes from the main board section and is
reflected onto the drum unit, making light copies on the front panel side. The main board
cover must be installed when making test copies to get accurate light adjustment. See
also: Minolta 550.
UBIX MIDRANGE
INTERMITTENT BANDS
Bias Connection through dev tank centre shaft intermittant causes banding down copy.
Install earth strap onto center shaft, or clean bearing on main body side.

PAPER JAMS
Detack Problems. This machine sometimes has problems with paper not detacking from the drum
properly and getting stuck in the cleaning unit. You can fix this problem by turning up
the detack current a bit on the HVPS in the rear of the machine. You may need to replace
the detack corona. Also make sure that your customer does not use curled paper, as this
machine is very sensitive.

DEVELOPER CHANGE
When changing the developer or installing developer for the first time, be
sure you perform 47 mode/ 90 BEFORE you run the TDS adjustment, 47 mode/ 51.
Failure to do so will create a code F26 everytime and you will have to dump
and change the developer all over again. It is also a good practice to
unplug the toner motor before doing these adjustments because the machine
will add toner for the 3 minute duration of the 47/51 mode.

1/4 of the trail edge is skewed
Replace the upper fuser roller bushings, make sure, if you are using after market
bushings that they have teflon inside the ring. When the paper enters the fusing
unit, it is driven by the feed rollers and drum, once the fuser makes the lead edge nip it
jerks (skews) the paper from under the drum.
COPY QUALITY
Slight blur on copy where paper is under drum as it enters
fuser rollers.
1: Clean and/or replace Reg. rollers and bushings.
2: Adj. so clamshell is locked down tight.
Has no transport belts or roller, only thing pushing paper at
this point is reg. rollers, if slipping
will hesitste on the way into fuser.
REG PROBLEMS
Reg. roller bushing and gear mech. towards rear has tendency to
lock up sometimes and cause problems. Clean and lube every
other PM.
UNDERTONED COPIES
1: Do PM if close.Every 15K
2: If not close to PM you can tone-up using 47 code #59 until density up
to par then lock in with #51. If won't tone up check toner clutch for
broken parts and inside of toner hopper. Hopper uses a trougth type of
system, sometimes jams up if over-stuffed(customer adds toner when
light not on, which can happen when they get light copies from other
problem). If tones up but you
get any other code but #51 after doing dev. calibration,
replace dev. and recalibrate.
CODE 41
PROBLEM; PAPER JAMS AT REGISTRATION ROLLERS, SOMETIMES CODE 41 DISPLAYED. FIX; CLEAN HOME
POSITION SENSOR ON SCANNER RAIL.
GRINDING NOISE
Usually this is caused buy the drive gear becoming worn. Konica says that this is because
of a misplaced washer. If the gear isn't worn to badly you can get the fuser to mesh with
the gear better by bending the fuser frame at the pivot point
GRINDING NOISE
.....if it isn't the barbell looking gear that drives the fuser....try to empty the toner
collector bottle......trust me...
CODE 45
A code 45 will be set in this machine due to the MDB (Motor Driver Board) sending
conflicting signals to the Lens Drive Motor. This can be checked by removing the motor,
jigging the interlock, and powering up machine. After the code 45 sets the Lens Drive
Motor will not turn(resistance can be felt). Replace MDB Part #4900-9500 CODE 45
A code 45 in a 1290re can be attributed to a bound up toner supply motor. The chip on the
Main control board, gets taken out by the supply motor, also supplies the signals to the
lens drive motor(alas code 45) Replace the toner suppy motor and the Main Control Board.

Skips. The scan rail (rear) has a piece of tape on it to protect it from wear. This tape
itself can become worn and cause skipping of the scan assembly. To relieve this problem,
you can just remove the tape and lubricate the rail.
1290/1290RE
CODE 34
High temp, thermister not contacting the fuser roller properly. Shim the thermister
between the metal bracket and the foam pad with a plastic corona block screw cut to fit.
The thermister will then protrude out. Reset 34 code
1290/RE, 1018 and 2020
Problem: Main motor runs backwards
Solution: Replace the starting capacitor. That's the little black box
next to the main motor. If they stop storing power the motor turns in whatever direction
the Sine wave converges.

BLOWING MAIN BOARDS
If you have a problem blowing main boards.....it is more than likely your lens drive
motor.....it took me 3 boards to narrow this down...hopefully you want have to do this....

NOISE
A sqealing noise coming form the paper exit side is more often than not the thermal fuse.
The thermal fuse will build up with toner causing it to squeak. Just clean the thermal
fuse and squeak should go away. I have also seen a build up on the thermistor. In some
rare cases I have had to push the thermistor back away from the fuser roller a small
amount being careful not to push it too far away.
NOISE
If you get a grinding noise at some point soon after replacing the imaging unit, check to
make sure that the toner refeed tube is locked into place correctly.
2020
High toner consumption and waste backup
Check the charge erase lamp The charge erase lamp's matrix is series /parallel If one bulb
or two on opposite ends blow, the copier will not throw a code. It will, however, not
reduce the high charge on the drum in that area and suck down some
serious toner.
WASTE TONER OVERFLOW
Some Konica 2020 copiers will cause the waste toner to overflow. What happens is that when
the DV. gets changed it is overtoned from the factory. This causes that the copier not to
calibrate properly.
Solution: Change DV and befor running mode 47-51( calibration ) run 10 sky shots. This
will us up some of the toner in the new DV. After this is done then run your calibration.
UNDERTONING
If yu have a 2020 that gets grey copies, check the toner motor, (rear frame), to toner
gear on the developer unit. The frame that holds the motor gets bent and won't engage with
the toner add gear.

Lens drive belt causes many problems.
If
you get a failure to warm up on a 2028 series Konica, check the drive belt
connecting the lens drive motor and the driven gear that moves the lens and notice if the
belt has come off the drive pulley. I've run across several machines that have the gear on
the motor has the flange installed backwards and allows the belt to slip off and because
the diagnostic scan of the lens is never completed, neither is the warm up and a warm
up failure is indicated.

Duplex problems
Symptom: Pages attempting to enter the duplex unit get stopped partially
going into the stacker area.
Solution: First make sure that the guide plate return spring is in place
and if its not, and you can't find the original, make one. If this spring is not installed
the machine will try to send the paper through the horizontal guide plates (the wrong
direction) instead of down into the stacker. Secondly, remove the Duplexer Main Motor. See
if you can turn the motor easily by hand (worm gear). If motor has much resistance
turning, replace it. This problem took me a while to find but I found out from Danka that
they sell quite a lot of them wholesale. I have, at this writing yet to break one of them
apart to look inside them to see what is actually seized, if anything. But the difference
between effort to turn the bad motor versus the ease to turn the new one was obvious.
Also, immediately after trying to run a copy the motor was VERY WARM. Another giveaway.
Duplex Motor seizing update:
I have since broken one apart and I am glad to report that I was successful at the repair.
What occurs is that the motor shaft (brass) bushings seize to the motor shafts and prevent
the motor from being able to turn due to there being too much torque. A bit of a headache
to get apart and back together again (there is some de-soldering of the brush ground
straps involved) but well worth the time especially at the wholesale cost of around $75.00
for a new motor. After breaking it apart and cleaning the brass bushings and shaft, simply
add a few drops of lube and reassemble. You're done.

F-41 CODE
Check the scanner home position sensor. It should be in the center position,
some machines were shipped with the sensor in the left or right most
position.
2803
CODE 51
Problem, flashing code 51 (front door open) interlock switch checked out, problem still
there although intermittent. I was told to resolder the connections on the DC power supply
above the cassettes that was always the culprit. Did that still the intermittent 51 code.
I finally replace the power supply and still the problem persisted. Finally I found a bad
overheat fuse in the fuser replaced and it fixed the problem.

Jamming going into ST-207
If you have jamming going from main body to ST-207, check downward conveyance drive gear
(part #554076540). Sometimes this gear gets rounded out where it slides over the
drive pin causing it to slip. It might not even happen every time and does not make
a lot of noise if slipping, so hard to find.
4155
Leakage Breaker
I ran into a strange problem today when the leakage breaker on the Konica 4155 copier I
was working on kept popping. The problem wound up being that the lower fuser lamp was
broken in the middle and the filament was touching the inside of the roller and shorting
out. This dead short caused the leakage breaker to pop right at power up
everytime.
