Print
button is hard to press or you need to wiggle it to get the copier to print. I have
seen this on 7718's to 7740's. The solder on the print button switch will break,
re-solder the print switch with good solder and make sure you push the switch down into
the PCB as far as possible while soldering. Seems like the switches are up a little
from the PCB and over time people pressing the print switch cause it to break. Seems to be
a very common problem.
UF585
The
fax display is flashing and the fax is beeping. This will happen if the memory fills
up. You need to be quick because once the fax start this cycle it will not respond
to the keypad. Power on the fax and go into service mode, quickly before the fax
starts acting up. Reset the image memory.
KXP6100/6500
On the 6100/6500 is a reduction gear used for the paper feed. This
will happen when someone gets a paper jam or tries to add paper during a print
job. The gear teeth will break. The printer will seem to feed OK, but you will
SOMETIMES hear a popping sound and see a dark band across the page with some of the print
smeared. This will normally happen just a the page is being feed into the printer,
within the first 1 - 2 inches and then be OK for the rest of the page. Its the large
gear at the bottom of the gear unit next to the motor.
Popping sound from the fuser. Its seems that the fuser tightens up over time and the gear
have a hard time moving the rollers. You only hear the sound when the printer is
warming up. When you check the printer you can't find any trouble with the gears.
Remove the gear unit and fuser unit. Oil all the gears and clean an oil
the fuser unit. Reassemble the printer and make sure that the gears
mesh tightly. Also, if the person is printing a lot of fills the toner in the drum
unit will clump above the drum and cause a grinding sound.
The KXP6500 drum unit will work in the 6100, the 6100 unit will not work in the 6500, its
missing the toner sensor and you will get an out of toner error.
KXP6500
memory
Panasonic charges a lot for RAM
upgrades. The KX-P6500 uses standard 72pin SIMM (4MB), non-EDO.
80 Series Knocking
The brass bushing will wear out and cause drive shaft to slop around. Its an hour long or so job. Panasonic has repair kit .
Sorters and Staple
Sorters
Most Panasonic sorters and staple sorters have Canon parts . You will find the Canon parts are 75% cheaper than the same part from Panasonic . The part numbers are the same in both cases so its easy to check.
MEDALLION SERIES
They're saying that the exit guide is going to be changed a little. In
the meantime trim a millimeter or so from the ribs that are near the
exit sensor...also moving sensor position upward seems to help...jam is
j-41 and j-40...
NEWER MODELS
BLOWN TEMP FUSE
If you get a "blown" temperature fuse in a newer model Panasonic or Toshiba
copier, replace the fuse BUT DON'T THROW THE OLD ONE AWAY! Take the "Blown" fuse
home, put it in your freezer overnight, and it will be as good as new. They are fully
resettable, but need a jolt of cold to do it.
C-PROJECT MACHINES 1670 through 7140
GENERAL
Dont play with the VR's ALL adjustments are done through the key panel ... there is never
a need to turn these on this model line.
FP-1270/1275
If you have a noisy image unit in one of these models you can repair it by cleaning and lubing the toner add clutch with moly grease. You can check for this problem by removing the toner hopper and actuating the toner add solenoid the noise should stop.
FP1270/1275 - Blank Copies
After checking the usual suspects,
you should check the corona end blocks real carefully. I have had a problem with a couple
machines after replacing the image unit following a feed tire change. Seems the
movement caused a weak spot in the end block and a crack, which is VERY hard to see,
enabled the charge to ground to the frame. I covered the block with electrical tape and
voila! Got copies. Replace the end blocks as
soon as you can because this is destined to cause problems again.
FP-1510
COPY QUALITY
Toner on back of copies. This machine has the strangest transfer system that I have ever
seen. The transfer corona is located UNDER the transport belt! This causes a number of
problems, the most glaring of which being the problem of the toner being transfered to the
transport belt! (DUH!) Panasonic had to design a transport belt cleaning system much like
the typical drum cleaning blade type system just to keep the belt clean. Too bad it
doesn't work. To clean this problem up temporarily you have to remove the transport
assembly and clean the blade and sump bottle inside. this will clean it up for a while at
least.
FP-1510/30/40
UFR LIFE
I have found that I can extend the life of the upper fuser roller by changing the cleaning
roller from a steel roller to the felt roller that is used in the 1570.
FP-1520
Image reduction in direction of paper travel. Blank area on the trail edge of copy. Replace the upper rubber timing roller. If the sheet bypass tray is not used, you can remove the plastic gear on the end of the roller. If you remove the gear, the bypass tray will not work. Some Techs cut the ends of the rubber roller off. This won't work either!
FP-1670
COPY QUALITY
You may need to replace the insulation sheets that are found around the lens unit.
NOISE
Early model FP-1670's can develope a noise or squeak in the optics fan above the
transport. You can't even see it, let alone oil it. Removing the fan for repair or
replacement not all that hard to do. The entire top optical section of the machine must be
removed to access it. Take a Xanax pill and bring your lunch. It will take about 3 hours
the first time. Then only 1 hour after that.
COPY QUALITY
There are so many things that can be changed in the F codes on these machines that
sometimes you find yourself chasing your tail with copy quality problems. When all else
fails...try re-setting all F codes back to factory specs. The factory specs are located
under the small panel, just under the waste toner bottle. After you make these
adjustments, turn the power off for a few seconds, and then back on. This gives the
sensors a chance to re-initialize.
FP-1670 thru FP-4080
The control panel push buttons can break on the console and the switches can be very hard to push sometimes. All the switches and push buttons can be replaces individually. No need to replace the console.
FP-1780 > 4080 System Consoles
PAPER FEED
The 500 sheet paper drawers on the FADS22,27 system consoles have a tendancy to cause
intermittent slip jams. The reason for this is when the feed shaft turns the one way feed
bearing (gear) adjacent to the feed roller slips. This problem only occurs on the newer
consoles. My suggestion is to change the feed style back to the old style which is direct
feed and eliminates the one way bearing. It's a 20 minute job and requires only a few
parts ( 1feed roller, bracket, 2 gears). This style feed system was designed to assist the
operator when clearing jams, and in turn created the majority of misfeeds. OLDER IS
SOMTIMES BETTER.
PAPER FEED
Misffeds usually when copying heavier card stock before entering the fuser. Be sure the
paper is within specifications then lower the fuser entrance guide.
FP-2520
U-1 CODE
Back of machine PCB in middle of machine. Conector in lower right corner red wire,
Resolder solder joints on back. Should take care of problem.
FP-3030
E-05 CODE
E05 intermittently is caused by plastic connector block between transfer corona and HVT
leads. The countersunk plastic screw loses its head causing bad connection to transfer
corona resulting in E05. Have also had the same problem with FP5060 which uses the same
connector. CODES
Common E Codes on these models are: E-00,E-02,E-05 and E-25 (FP-3040)
DRUM GROUND
This basic engine was used on many Panasonic copiers, starting with the FP-3030, and right
up to the FP-5060. They all must have a very good drum ground. Systoms can be as scary as
a main motor not shutting off, to a fuser meltdown. The rollers actually melt together and
all fingers become melted blobs. The machine may start and stop on it's own and you name
it...it will do it. The only way to be sure the ground is good is with a test meter set to
ohms. Measure from the drum flange to the copier frame (Watch out for the #1 corona, it
bites hard...) Run the machine and check resistance. Only zero ohms is acceptable.
FP-3040
COPY QUALITY
Light copies. Toner maybe spilling on to TD sensor inside the drum unit. You can prevent
this by applying a small piece of mylar tape to the top of sensor to block toner spillage.
3270/4080
Do not confuse the heat roller on the 3270/3280 and the 4080.Although the
same in size and shape the thickness and heating results are very different and may cause
problems in the long run.
FP-5060
E-05 CODE
E05 intermittently is caused by plastic connector block between transfer corona and HVT
leads. The countersunk plastic screw loses its head causing bad connection to transfer
corona resulting in E05. Have also had the same problem with FP3030 which uses the same
connector. ADF JAMS
This document feeder can be tested by placing blank paper in the input tray and pressing
the Count Button. If the paper stalls and jams at the entrance after about 30 or 40
sheets, tray checking and cleaning the One Way Clutch on the end of the input roller
shaft. There are two there. You can scratch up the shaft with a file and it will work just
as good.
NOISE
Very noisy paper feed unit can be corrected by removing and cleaning all bushing and
clutches in the feed unit. Don't forget to apply grease to the gears. A small amount of
oil on the plastic bushings won't hurt, but not too much.
FP-7113
NOISE
Vibrating noise ( or somtimes referred to as a howling noise) during a copy cycle. This
noise comes from the door not being shut completely ( mainly the rear latch ). Open the
door and check for any play or movement on the rear latch, if there is remove the six
screws from the fuser and place a shim between the shaft which the latch is attached to
and the fuser guide ( then reassemble ). This problem can often times be detected by
looking at the left side door and making sure it is flush with the upper cover ( front to
rear ).
FP-7113/7115
NO feed or jams .. check for distorted DFP clutch spring.
FP7728
One some of these models
(7722/28/35) if the bushing for the upper fuser wears out or breaks the lamp may short
against the frame. Panasonic has released a kit (a plastic sleeve) that fits over
the end of the lamp.
Background streaks that will not go away even after cleaning the dev unit and
corona's. F8-14 will re-calibrate the current on the corona and drum. This
will lighten the background with making the image lighter.
Dark copies or over-toned.
Make a few shy shots (move the toner unit to the side, so toner can't be added) then do a
F8-9 to re-calibrate the developer. This will lighten the copies, and use a lot less
toner in the future.
Dumping toner, the copier fills the waste bottle in record time. What I
have heard is that Matsushita changed the factory that makes the toner and
developer. I my opinion, this wash a bad move. New software has been
released to solve this problem. The new software also allows you to turn
off the User Preset key.
Print button sticky. Some customer's have complained that the print button is
getting hard to press. The solder on the PCB cracks around the
contact. De-solder the contacts for the Printer Button, then push down on
the print button while soldering the contacts.
IF
you stuck for toner (FP7718 - 7750). The toner bottles are different sizes but the
toner is the same and the smaller bottles will work in the larger copiers.
FA-MADM1 duplex unit
On the FA-MADM1 duplex unit used in the FADS27 consoles there is an intermitent jam problem after approximately 10-20 sheets are fed into the duplex unit. If you open the duplex unit after a misfeed is detected and notice that the paper is folded around, this tip may help you. The reason is, the duplex feed roller loses contact with the paper as it is fed into the duplex unit, which causes the paper to stop before it lays flat in the tray. The next sheet in hits the the edge of the paper causing it to fold. To fix the problem replace the main bracket that the feed assembly is attached to. They have a tendancy to bow upward which causes poor contact with the feed roller. The new Bracket has been reinforced (same part#).
